The villa

Crystal Jungle Villa is a private two-bedroom A-frame set in a lush tropical garden on the edge of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. The architecture is a modern take on traditional Caribbean forms: high ceilings, exposed timber, large louvred windows that frame jungle canopy views from the loft. Built for comfort in a hot climate — both bedrooms have air conditioning, the water is hot, the kitchen is fully stocked, and the WiFi runs at 100 Mbps.

The garden is genuinely private — enclosed, shaded, with a covered seating area that's used constantly. Toucans land in the mango trees in the morning. Sloths hang in the cecropia out back. The wildlife here isn't the kind you drive 40 minutes to see — it comes to you.

Playa Negra is 8 minutes on foot. The bus stop to the center of Puerto Viejo and beyond is 3 minutes away. Bike rentals are available in town for $5–10/day, and you don't need a car for most of the week.

Bedrooms

The villa has two bedrooms, each with a king bed and its own air conditioning unit — important on the Caribbean coast where nights are warm and humid year-round.

The primary bedroom is on the main floor: a proper king, blackout curtains, A/C, direct access to the garden. Quiet and cool. The loft bedroom is upstairs under the A-frame roof: a king bed with views into the jungle canopy through the high timber-framed windows. The loft is a favorite for couples who book the villa with friends or family staying below. A fifth guest can sleep on the sofa in the living area.

Location & getting around

The villa is in the Playa Negra neighborhood, a short stretch of road between Puerto Viejo town center and Playa Negra beach. It's a quiet residential area — loud enough to know you're in a living neighborhood, calm enough to actually sleep. No bar noise, no street traffic at 2 am.

  • Playa Negra (beach): 8-minute walk — closest accommodation to this beach on the coast
  • Puerto Viejo town center: 15-minute walk — restaurants, supermarkets, surf shops, pharmacy, ATM
  • Bus stop: 3-minute walk — direct buses to Cahuita, Manzanillo, San José
  • Cahuita National Park: 15 km north by bus or taxi (about $10–12 USD)
  • Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge: 12 km south — taxi or bus from the stop 3 minutes away

Bike rentals in town ($5–10/day) cover the full coast. Playa Negra to Manzanillo is a flat, paved road — you can cycle to every beach between Playa Negra and Punta Uva without effort.

Who stays here

The villa works for different groups because of the bedroom configuration: two private king bedrooms with separate levels mean two couples, or a family where parents and kids each have their own space, or a solo traveler who wants room to work and move around in.

Couples — the loft bedroom is genuinely romantic: king bed, high ceilings, jungle views. Most couples use the garden, rent bikes from town, and do a couple of day trips to Cahuita and Manzanillo, and don't leave for much else. That's not a bad week.

Families — two bedrooms on separate floors with independent A/C, a full kitchen so you're not eating out for every meal, and a private garden for the hours when nobody wants to go anywhere. The neighborhood is calm and flat, safe for children to move around in.

Remote workers — 100 Mbps fiber, a dedicated desk, and the kind of deep quiet that makes a long work session feel like less of a sacrifice. Puerto Viejo has very limited office-ready accommodation; most places are small, hot, and loud. Crystal Jungle Villa is none of those things.

Small groups of friends — two couples or three to four friends who want a base with a kitchen and outdoor space instead of individual hotel rooms. The garden works well for evenings.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

Puerto Viejo sits on the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica — a stretch of coast that runs from the coral reefs of Cahuita National Park in the north to the remote jungle beaches of Gandoca–Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge in the south. The region looks different from the Pacific: darker sand, denser jungle, Afro-Caribbean architecture, and a pace that resists planning. The Caribbean has its own weather patterns, its own food culture (rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, fresh fish, patacones), and its own crowd — less resort tourism, more travelers who know what they're looking for.

Puerto Viejo itself is a small town with a main strip of restaurants, bars, surf shops, and sodas. Most of what you'd want for a week is there: a supermarket, pharmacies, ATMs, bike rentals, tour operators for Cahuita and chocolate tours. The energy is distinctly Caribbean — relaxed without being inert, with enough going on most evenings that you don't feel isolated.

Frequently asked questions

How many guests does Crystal Jungle Villa sleep?

Up to 5 guests across 2 bedrooms: a primary king on the main floor and a loft king upstairs. A sofa in the living area can accommodate a fifth guest. Both bedrooms have their own A/C units.

How far is the beach?

Playa Negra is an 8-minute walk from the villa — the closest beach accommodation in this part of the coast. Playa Cocles and Playa Chiquita are reachable by bike rental along a flat coastal road.

Does the villa have A/C?

Yes — both bedrooms have their own air conditioning units. The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is warm and humid year-round, and A/C makes a real difference for sleeping comfort, especially from May through October.

What WiFi speed does the villa have?

100 Mbps fiber. Fast enough to work remotely, stream, or join video calls without issues. There's also a dedicated desk with jungle views for remote work.

Can I book directly without Airbnb?

The easiest way to book with real-time availability is through Airbnb. For direct questions, longer stays, or to check availability before booking, you can reach us on WhatsApp at +506 6461 4110. We respond quickly.

Is the villa good for remote work?

Yes. 100 Mbps WiFi, a dedicated desk, A/C, and quiet surroundings. Puerto Viejo has limited options for serious remote work — most accommodation is small and loud. This villa was specifically set up to work for people who need reliable connectivity and a functional workspace.

How do I get from San José to Puerto Viejo?

Bus from Terminal del Caribe in San José to Puerto Viejo: about 4 hours, around $10 USD. The villa is a short taxi ride from the bus stop in Puerto Viejo town center. Driving via Ruta 32 takes about 3.5 hours. Full San José to Puerto Viejo guide here →

Do I need a car in Puerto Viejo?

No. Playa Negra is an 8-minute walk, the town center is 15 minutes on foot, and Cocles and Playa Chiquita are easy by rented bike ($5–10/day from town). Buses run to Cahuita and Manzanillo from the stop 3 minutes away. Most guests don't rent a car. Full guide: visiting Puerto Viejo without a car →
